Comfort Lane closed May 21-23 in Lafayette

The following is a news release from the Lafayette Department of Traffic and Transportation:

Tom Carroll, the Director of the Public Works Department, has announced the closure of Comfort Lane between E. Pont des Mouton Road and Judge Drive beginning Tuesday, May 21 at 7 a.m. until Thursday, May 23 at 5 p.m. for contractor CJ Logan to make sewerage infrastructure repairs.

Detour routes will be made available.

Hurricane Expo set Saturday at Prien Lake Mall

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC)- KPLC 7 Stormteam meteorologists will be on site with the National Weather Service and Entergy for this year's Hurricane Expo at the Prien Lake Mall on Saturday.

The purpose of the expo is to provide information about evacuations, warning systems and as a bonus, the team will be giving away door prizes that will help residents stay prepared during cases of severe weather and emergencies.

Staying prepared and being informed is one of the most important pieces of knowledge for the public as we move forward this season.

All CPPL branches will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.

Movies in the Square kicks off May 18

Movies in the Square kicks off May 18

The City of Sulphur has announced that its Movies in the Square series will kick off on Saturday, May 18 in Heritage Square with a free screening of Disney and Pixar's "Brave." The movie will begin at sunset, and attendees are asked to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.

Popcorn and drinks will be sold on-site, but attendees are allowed to bring their own snacks as well.

Arts Council of SWLA to hold summer art camp

The Arts Council of SWLA has announced that its Summer Arts Camp 2013 will be held June 4-27 at the Lake Charles Boston Academy of Learning, located at 1509 Enterprise Boulevard in Lake Charles.

Artwork produced by participants in the art camp will be displayed at an open house on June 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Children can pick up their artwork on June 28.

The event will take place in the Lake Charles Civic Center Buccaneer Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

McNeese launches radio station, holding logo contest

The following is a news release from McNeese State University:

McNeese State University is launching a radio station in 2014, and the public is invited to submit ideas for a logo and slogan.

“This will be a non-profit radio station supported by volunteers from McNeese and the community,” Candace Townsend, McNeese director of public relations, said. Programming will include several music formats, information about McNeese cultural events, news and announcements related to weather and road conditions.
