McNeese to hold Summer Reading Clinic

The following is a news release from McNeese State University:

The McNeese State University Summer Reading Clinic will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to noon Mondays through Thursdays on June 3-27 for elementary students entering grades 1-6.

The students will receive one-on-one tutoring and participate in reading-enriched activities with a teacher.

The cost is $175, which includes a $50 deposit with the completed application.

More than 200 Louisiana Master Gardeners braved downpours to be recognized for their volunteer efforts at the LSU AgCenter Hammond Research Station on May 10.

Attendees came from almost all parishes across the southern part of the state, in addition to small groups from several parishes in north Louisiana, said LSU AgCenter Master Gardener coordinator Rene Schmit.

The following is a news release from the Lafayette Department of Traffic and Transportation:

Tom Carroll, the Director of the Public Works Department, has announced the closure of Comfort Lane between E. Pont des Mouton Road and Judge Drive beginning Tuesday, May 21 at 7 a.m. until Thursday, May 23 at 5 p.m. for contractor CJ Logan to make sewerage infrastructure repairs.

Detour routes will be made available.

Hurricane Expo set Saturday at Prien Lake Mall

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC)- KPLC 7 Stormteam meteorologists will be on site with the National Weather Service and Entergy for this year's Hurricane Expo at the Prien Lake Mall on Saturday.

The purpose of the expo is to provide information about evacuations, warning systems and as a bonus, the team will be giving away door prizes that will help residents stay prepared during cases of severe weather and emergencies.

Staying prepared and being informed is one of the most important pieces of knowledge for the public as we move forward this season.
