Railroad crossing at Lewis St. to be closed March 8-9

The following is a news release from the City of Sulphur:

Mayor Chris Duncan has announced that the railroad crossing on Lewis St. will be closed from Friday, March 8 at 3 p.m. to Saturday, March 9 at 1 a.m. The closure is required so that Union Pacific can make repairs to the railroad crossing.

The Southeast Tourism Society (STS) recently honored Black Heritage Festival as a Top 20 Event for the first quarter of 2013.    

Held annually on March 8-10, the festival brings together the cultures of Africa and Southwest Louisiana and celebrates diversity, culture and education. The festival is filled with zydeco, jazz and gospel performers as well as The Market Place, featuring African art and clothing.

The event is open to the public, and the guest speaker will be the Honorable Ulysses Gene Thibodeaux, Chief Judge, State of Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal.

Lakeshore Drive closed March 7 to 11

Lakeshore Drive closed March 7 to 11

The following is a news release from the City of Lake Charles:

The southbound lane of Lakeshore Drive, between Pujo St. and Kirby St., will be temporarily closed to thru traffic from March 7 to 11 to allow for utilities work in conjunction with the Gill Street Extension project.

Access to the Civic Center at the Pujo Street entrance will remain open.

Detour signs will be posted.
