About Us
Brief History of Potter's House
The Potter's House was founded under the umbrella of the Lord's Outreach Worship Center, in October 1989, at 704 N. Prater St. in Lake Charles, La. We started in a three bedroom house, where we housed 17 women and children. It was supported by the community at large and selling plate lunches. In 1992 Potter's House Inc. was incorporated and recieved its own 50/C3 tax exempt status.
We have housed all walks of life. Our residents have not always come with drug or alcoholic addictions, but some do come to us due to loss of job, falling through the cracks, some are released from hospitals, prison and the local jails. People have come to us throughout the state of Louisiana, as well as different parts of the Country. Many people are referred to the Potter's House by public agencies, word of mouth and the Police and Sherrif Departments. We are a 23 bed facility that house pregnant women, women and women with children, also we have a safe haven for people with disabilities that have no where else to go. On an average we serve 23-26 people daily, but overall we have served over 7000 throughout the past years.
