Man arrested for 2nd offense failure to register as sex offender

The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

On February 7, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested convicted sex offender Michael S. Haig, 35, of Lake Charles, and charged him with failure to register as a sex offender, after receiving information from Arkansas State Police that he may be residing in Calcasieu Parish.

As required by law, a sex offender must notify the parish/county they are registered in of their plan to move and then must register within three (3) days with the parish/county of their new residence.

Haig was previously arrested by CPSO Compliance and Awareness Unit (CAP Unit) in April 2003 and charged with failure to register as a sex offender after it was discovered he had moved and failed to notify the proper authorities of his whereabouts within three (3) days.

He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 2nd offense failure to register as a sex offender.

Haig was convicted in June 2000 of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile in Calcasieu Parish.

Judge Michael Canaday set his bond at $100,000.

CPSO Deputy Scott Hebert was the arresting deputy on this case.
