Calcasieu libraries announce programs for May 19-25

The following is a news release from Calcasieu Parish Public Library:

Many CPPL branches will have fewer goings-on next week, as they gear up for their summer reading programs, which will begin May 31.

All CPPL branches will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.

Movies in the Square kicks off May 18

Movies in the Square kicks off May 18

The City of Sulphur has announced that its Movies in the Square series will kick off on Saturday, May 18 in Heritage Square with a free screening of Disney and Pixar's "Brave." The movie will begin at sunset, and attendees are asked to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.

Popcorn and drinks will be sold on-site, but attendees are allowed to bring their own snacks as well.

CHRISTUS Hospice and Palliative Care along with CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital and The Foundation will feature Father Jonathan Morris, analyst for Fox News and priest of the Archdiocese of New York, at their first annual “Power Up in Faith” non-denominational luncheon on Thursday, May 23. The event will take place in the Lake Charles Civic Center Buccaneer Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Children across the nation will take part in the third annual National Kids to Parks Day set to take place on on Saturday, May 18. The event aims to raise awareness of America’s parks through play.

Mayor Randy Roach joins mayors across the country who have signed official proclamations declaring May 18 National Kids to Parks Day. He encourages locals to participate by exploring Millennium Park and other public parks within the city.

Stark Museum of Art to hold book discussion May 18

The following is a news release from the Stark Foundation:

The Stark Museum of Art, located at 712 Green Avenue in Orange, Texas, will host a Book Discussion of Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

Elena Ivanova, the Museum's Chief Educator, will lead the discussion and will provide insights into the book for those not familiar with it. For greater participation, attendees are encouraged to read the book in advance and review discussion questions on the Museum's website.
