WCCH's 'Pink Crusade' Support Group to discuss lymphedema

On Thursday, May 9, West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH) will hold its monthly “Pink Crusade” Breast Cancer Support Group meeting. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Dynamic Dimensions in Sulphur, located at 545 Cypress Street. Lauren Gilley, certified lymphedema therapist, will speak about the prevention of lymphedema as well as treatment for those that suffer with the condition.

Hart Eye Center of Lake Charles will hold a free LASIK screening on April 27 from 8 a.m. to noon at its 1920 W. Sale Road location.

Women & Children’s Hospital (WCH) will host their next Healthy Woman event on Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lake Charles Country Club, located at 3350 Country Club Road. 

The theme for this event is "Healthy Woman Derby Party – Heels, Hats and Horses." The event will feature author and cooking expert Liz Edmunds, also known as The Food Nanny.

Beginning Tuesday, April 23, the Lake Charles Memorial Health System will once again offer free colorectal screening kits in an effort to help detect colorectal cancer at its earliest—and most treatable—stages.

A non-invasive test that can be completed in the privacy of your home, the screening can identify hidden blood in stool samples, which is the first and in many cases the only warning sign of colorectal disease.

CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital Diabetes Management and CHRISTUS Louisiana Athletic Club-Lake Charles are teaming up to hold a free nutrition seminar on Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. at 4429 Nelson Road.

Registered dietitians with CHRISTUS St. Patrick will be available to discuss and answer questions about nutrition, eating habits, eating plans for the entire family, label reading and more.
