Bassmaster Elite Series Sabine River Challenge to be held March 14–17 | News
The Bassmaster Elite Series Sabine River Challenge will be held March 14 – 17, in Orange, Texas. This is the first of eight Bassmaster Elite Series professional bass fishing tournaments scheduled for 2013.
This tournament will mark the first time B.A.S.S. has held a professional tournament on the Sabine River. Participants in the tournament will include Kevin VanDam, the 2013 Bassmaster Classic champion. The grand prize will be $100,000 plus a spot in the 2014 Bassmaster Classic to be held in Birmingham, Ala. on Lake Guntersville.
The first boats for the 2013 tournament will launch at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, Mar. 14. The final weigh-in will be held at the City of Orange Boat Ramp on Sunday at 3:15 p.m.
The tournament will also include the following events, which are free and open to the public:
A ribbon cutting for the Orange County Riverfront Festival will be held at 2 p.m. at the City of Orange Boat Ramp on March 14. The festival will last until 10 p.m. on Thursday and will be held from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
On March 15 at 8 p.m., the Lutcher Theatre will present a Laser Spectacle light show featuring the music of Queen and Pink Floyd.
On March 15, Neal McCoy will perform after the daily weigh-in as part of the Orange County Riverfront Festival. A fireworks show will be held immediately after the concert.
Participants in the tournament will launch their boats each day at 6:30 a.m. Official weigh-ins will take place at the City of Orange Boat Ramp each day at 3:15 p.m.
The Elite Series Expo will have B.A.S.S. sponsor representatives onsite throughout the weekend with activities, games and prizes for attendees. Companies like Mercury, Nitro, Skeeter, Triton, and Yamaha will be set up at the Expo and will be offering demo rides. Minn Kota, Humminbird, Livingston Lures, Lowrance, Power-Pole, Shimano and Luck-E-Strike will also be set up at the Expo.
Other activities planned throughout the Sabine River Challenge weekend include the opportunity to pose questions to Elite Series pros, angler autograph and photo sessions, and the chance to learn tips and techniques from some of the bass anglers. Also, on Saturday teen anglers can take part in the B.A.S.S. High School Elite Experience.
The Orange County Riverfront Festival will also include activities for families, such as the Kids Catch and Release Fish Tank and live music throughout all four days of competition. There will also be a special fishing themed display at the Stark Museum of Art, along with a drop in scavenger hunt on Gone Fishing.
