Lake Charles Boston Homecoming, Sept. 14

LaGrange High School will be dedicating its football game to Lake Charles Boston graduates.

The game will be on Sept. 14, the time to be announced.

The visitors side of the field will be the designated area for the LCB alumni. Graduates are encouraged to wear red or LCP paraphernalia.

Love’s Country Store to hold photo signing fundraiser featuring Swamp People’s “Gator Queen”

The following is a Press Release from CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital:

Love’s Country Store in Iowa will hold a photograph signing fundraiser on Sunday, August 19 at Love’s on 1118 Lowe-Grout Road in Iowa, La., from 2-4 p.m.  Liz Choate, aka “Gator Queen”, one of the stars on The History Channel TV show “Swamp People”, will be on-site to sign photographs of herself for a $5 donation to Children’s Miracle Network of CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital.

Memorial benefit fund set up for Westlake man

A memorial benefit account has been set up for the family of Derick W. Burnett of Westlake who passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012.

Burnett is survived by his wife Eva Burnett and two children.

Family and friends are asking for the public’s help in covering the funeral costs.

The Derick W. Burnett account is set up at City Savings Bank.

Sulphur girl titleholder for 2012 Pre-Teen La. Scholarship

A SWLA girl brought home the title in the 2012 Pre-Teen Louisiana Scholarship & Recognition Program held in Lafayette.

Abigail Fruge from Sulphur won the senior division in the competition.

It is designed to recognize young ladies that exhibit outstanding achievements in academics, leadership, athletics, the arts, knowledge, creativity, community service, personal development and communication skills.

Lake Area author releases new children's book

A Southwest Louisiana author is launching her first children’s book titled “Danny and the Dentist.”

Author, Jessica Bertrand book release party will be Sunday, Aug. 12 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Family Life Center - Activity Room on 3939 Kingston Street in Lake Charles.
