John McNeese Park opens Thursday

McNeese State University President Dr. Philip C. Williams places the final brick into the sidewalk to complete the new John McNeese Park near the center of campus. The area features a statue of the renowned educator and university namesake as well as new sidewalks, seating areas, landscaping and lighting. The official opening of John McNeese Park will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, with a brief presentation at the John McNeese statue, as part of this week’s Homecoming festivities. Afterwards, a reception will be held in Parra Ballroom in the Student Union Annex.

Lake Charles City Council chambers to reopen Oct. 9

The following is a news release from the City of Lake Charles:

The newly renovated City of Lake Charles City Council Chambers, City Hall, 326 Pujo St., will reopen Tuesday, Oct. 9 for the City Council Agenda Meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Beginning in April, the Council Chambers were temporarily closed while renovations were being made and meetings have been held at the Central School Arts & Humanities Center, 809 Kirby St.

Cajun French Music & Food Festival Named Top 20 Event

Cajun French Music & Food Festival Named Top 20 Event

The Southeast Tourism Society (STS) recently honored the Cajun French Music & Food Festival as a 2012 Top 20 Event for the month of July. This is the second year in a row the festival has been named a Top 20 Event.

Every year the festival aims to preserve the Cajun traditions and heritage through music, dancing and food. Along with the delicious food and dancing, visitors can enjoy crafts booths, games, rides and a Sunday morning Cajun French Catholic Mass with a Cajun choir. Organized by the Lake Charles chapter of the Cajun French Music Association, the festival is a true celebration of the Cajun heritage and culture. This year’s festival will be held July 20-22 at the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles.

Independence Day closure for all Calcasieu Library branches

All Calcasieu Parish Public Library Branches will be closed Wednesday, July 4  for the Independence Day Holiday. Materials may be returned in the drop boxes at each library location.           

The automated calling service is available to renew materials and provide information on your account such as items checked out, fines owed, or overdue items. The service also gives information on holds you have placed or items available for pick-up. The menu will also give the option of changing your PIN number.

To access the system, dial 437-4153 or toll free at 1-800-240-0212, and follow the directions you hear. Have your library card number and PIN number ready.
