DWI checkpoint planned in Calcasieu Parish

The Louisiana State Police Troup D will be conducting a DWI checkpoint on Saturday, March 17th at an undisclosed location between the hours of 10:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. in Calcasieu Parish.

Their mission is to find and remove impaired drivers before they cause harm to themselves or others.

If you are going to drink make sure that you always have a designated driver before going out.

Safe Boating Class

Safe Boating Class

The Lake Charles Sail and Power Squadron will hold a one day Safe Boating Class on Saturday, March 31st at their clubhouse located just past the I-210 boat launch past Lafleur Park. The class will be held from 8:15 a.m. till 3:00 p.m.

Boaters with insurance may get a discount by completing this approved class. Anyone born after January 1, 1984, must take the class before operating a boat over 10 hp. This class will cover all aspects of safe boating along with information on the hazards of our local waterway.

A light lunch will be provided or you can bring a sack lunch. There is a $10 charge for each person ages 10 and up to cover refreshments and materials. Anyone under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Section of North Lane of Cline St. to be Temporarily Closed

An approximate 20-foot section of the north lane of Cline St., just west of the intersection of Cline and King, will be closed beginning Monday, Feb. 27th, for up to 10 working days to allow for concrete installation and curing.

The approximate 20-foot section of the south lane of Cline St., just west of the intersection of Cline and King, closed as of Feb. 20th, will reopen on Monday, Feb. 27th.

Road closures in Lake Charles

Below are the list of roads and lanes that will be closed on Feb. 20.:

The south lane of Cline Street west of the Cline and King intersection will be closed for concrete installation and curing.

LA 3059 east of U.S. 171 and LA 397 north of I-10 will be closed. 

In Sulphur, Highway 90 west of LA 27 and a portion of LA 27 will be closed.

In Westlake, portions of LA 378 and LA 379 will be closed.

Alternating lane closures LA 3059 - 0.3 miles east of US 171

LA 3059, 0.3 miles East of US 171, in Lake Charles will have alternating lane closures from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00.p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 through Friday, February 17, 2012 for crews to work on utilities.

Motorists are urged to use caution and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

Results for Calcasieu Parish seatbelt checkpoint

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a seatbelt checkpoint at the 6000 block of Hwy 14 in Bell City on Friday, January 27th.

As a result of the checkpoint, deputies checked 479 vehicles and issued 20 citations.

I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge update

I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge update

I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge Maintenance Project started in June 2011 and is expected to end at the end of March 2012.

Over the past month, crews have been focused on cleaning and preparing the surface for the painting of selected areas below the deck of the bridge.

However, the work on the substructure continues. Crews are working on structural metal repairs and installing a few replacement handrails.

The contractor, Topcor Services, is behind schedule, but has taken measure to gain progress.
